The question screen will freeze and then restart, but no drives are visible for booting?
Hello everyone,
I've been searching online for some time and still can't locate a solution for my PC.
Recently, it would frequently display a blue screen whenever I was using it—whether I was playing a game or just sitting on the desktop. After restarting, the system would immediately launch into BIOS and indicate that no drives were detected. I cleaned the PC, which seemed to resolve the problem temporarily for a couple of days.
Then I replaced the SSD, and it functioned properly for several months, leading me to believe the issue had been resolved.
A few weeks back, while playing DayZ with friends, it worked well for a short time before restarting and showing a blue screen again (I thought maybe a mod conflict was causing it). I stopped playing that game and assumed it was just the game.
Until last night, everything seemed normal—just chatting in Discord. Then it happened again.
I tried to reboot and searched for solutions online, but found nothing beyond general troubleshooting advice.
A forum suggested running "sfc /scannow" via CMD, which Windows reported fixed some corrupted files. It then displayed a blue screen again, returning me to the BIOS with no available drives.
I'm still trying to understand why this keeps happening. I don't recognize any error messages and am unsure how to interpret them.
If possible, please help me avoid buying parts that might not be needed—my PC is only two years old and I just installed a 4060 TI.
Maybe a useful tip: The motherboard from Amazon had two dead RAM slots, which have worked well for almost two years now. They refunded me for the board, but since I was on a tight budget and only had two RAM sticks, I didn't think it would matter much.
How many hard drives do you have? What kind are they? Are they visible in the BIOS?
Hi CountMike, thank you very much for your response. After installing the new SSD, I also disconnected my HDD just in case. So far, I only have the SSD installed, and when the PC crashes I can't see it in the BIOS.
When you don't see it in BIOS, is it just as BOOT device or not at all ?
If it's SATA did you check power connection and data cable and/or eventually replace them ? I don't see RAM problems as concern at this time but it could corrupt data on disk when in use. Next step could be to test it in another PC or connected it by USB adapter.
The BIOS doesn't display any drives during restarts, and when I power off and turn the PC back on, it starts normally. I haven't replaced the SATA cables in about two years since building the PC. The SSD was used for roughly a month before I added it to my system but it wasn't heavily utilized.
