my gpu kept hitting 90c or above while playing any video game, so in short i opened the card for cleaning and repaste. the original owner tried a copper mod which caused a mess, and i had to clean everything up. it was full of thermal paste and ripped up pads because they added thermal pads on top of the memory chips and then placed copper plates on top. i cleaned as much as possible and am wondering if that’s sufficient or if i should go deeper into the crevices. i noticed from the photos there’s still some thermal paste or pad stuck in the middle of em, making removal difficult. also, i’m unsure if the remaining pads are still usable or if i should replace them. i think i need 2mm thickness pads for the memory chips and wonder if i should cut them to size perfectly on each chip or if a longer strip across a section would work. the ones i bought from oultree seem to be doing fine.

The same guidelines apply to GPUs as they do to other components such as the CPU, chipset, and VRM. All surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned and free of grease. Minor scratches are acceptable, but large lumps are not. Paste and pads should not be reused even after a single use, especially if they were recently employed. It is permissible to use strips of pads.
