Occasionally a humming noise appears from my PC, which I think comes from the power supply unit and the fan. When I unplug it and wait a few minutes, the sound disappears, but it returns after several days. The PSU seems old—possibly nearing 7 to 8 years—and might need replacing soon, but I can't afford that right now. I have some concerns:
Would turning it off really help fix the fan noise? If I leave it on, does the vibration still occur?
And is the PSU still safe to use until I can replace it?
