Hi, I think my RM550X PSU has failed after trying to force a USB in or unplugging it. The USB got stuck and I pulled it out, then tried reinserting it into the same port but it wouldn’t go in. The PC would shut down or I manually stopped it (though I’m not sure if I did that because I left it on for a bit then saw a black screen). I’m planning to buy a new PSU but anyone know of other fixes? Could the replacement work even if the ports might still short out? Thanks,
Chao

The harm originated from the front panel connectors. I attempted to remove the plugs, but the issue persists. When using a flashlight inside the port, one appears to be severely damaged. The cause is unclear.

USB plugs are designed to fit only in one direction into the receiving port. If the plug is inserted incorrectly, it could cause a "jam" that might damage the device. The electrical short could lead to more significant harm than what is visible. If removing the connectors didn't resolve the issue, further inspection is necessary. A skilled person should assess the extent of the damage and suggest appropriate repairs.

Have you inspected the fuse inside the socket?

I expected the PSU to have some kind of safeguard against that, and in the worst case it could have removed the USB ports the header was attached to.

Not sure about this either.
It began when I attempted to unplug the same USB cable, discovering it was stuck. I might have applied too much force, causing the inside to tear out, but using a flashlight shows there are metals present, as if they were melted and bent.

Yeah, the end that connects to the wall or mains power does have a fuse. Have you checked if the fuse is blown and replaced it to see if that fixes the issue?
