Hello,
as mentioned in the title.
The noise has been almost constant since yesterday, paused for a few hours, and is now resuming.
Is it safe to continue using the computer at this time?
Should I replace the power supply unit?

That's the fan, maybe hitting the PSU's casing or not being installed correctly.
Bring it back to the store where you bought it and ask them to repair it, unless you want to cancel the Yohr warranty. Or, if you don't mind a warranty issue, open it up and verify its installation.

Yes, its safe, its just the fan hitting something, as long as the fan is working it is safe. Nothing in the PSU itself is damaged.

If you notice further issues, avoid using your PC until the PSU is repaired. As long as the fan is running and everything functions properly, you're safe.
