Hi, I usually use Steam for the PS5 controller software but I’m having trouble playing Battlefield 2042. When I add it as a non-Steam game, nothing works. Previously, linking it made everything function correctly, including PlayStation button prompts. Now it only shows Xbox buttons, which are incorrect. I’ve tried DS4, but it’s very slow and frustrating. I cleaned the cache, reset the controllers, and repaired them, yet issues persist. Anyone have any suggestions? Or should I just switch to an Xbox controller and stop dealing with these problems?
I used to be able to just link it and turn on 2042 and it was automatically detected as a ps5 controller and I would even get all the playstation button prompts. How long ago was this?
Microsoft and Sony have been at odds with the way things worked, even with their exclusive titles. Have you tried uninstalling the device from Device Manager? A similar issue was seen on PS3 and PS4 controllers on Windows PC's.
I haven't touched the PS controllers in a while. I still like them, but working smoothly with PC has been a challenge lately. The program I usually use gives the best results, such as SCD Toolkit or something similar (it's not available right now), but it often breaks and causes AV notifications. I switched to the Xbox One controller and have never looked back.
I should caution that newer Xbox controllers require a Bluetooth dongle for optimal performance, as they don't pair well with mobo wireless. The older models still function properly.
I tried that but it didn't work. It was unusual since it functioned without issues before I reinstalled Windows 11. I just paired it, opened Battlefield, and it gave me PlayStation 5 prompts and everything. Now it thinks it's an Xbox controller. When I added Battlefield as a non Steam game, it didn't detect the controller at all. DS4 works but in Battlefield aiming down sites is very slow and distorted. I played 72 hours of Battlefield using PlayStation buttons on Windows 11, trying to switch to an Xbox controller felt awkward in my hands. The sensitivity of the joysticks isn't right, and the controller feels more authentic. All the YouTube guides suggest using DS4 or adding it as a non Steam game. I thought maybe Battlefield is detecting multiple devices when set as a non Steam game, so I hid all other devices except the controller, but it still didn't recognize it.
Updated my approach with DS4. Used HIdHide config, masked the PS5 controller, and only Xbox appears now. Adjusting sites back to a smooth fast speed. Not sure how I managed the PS5 controller to work without DS4 anymore, but it’s not functioning properly now.
