I recently purchased some new RAM, while my previous one was unavailable and had been out of stock for more than a year. I opted for Corsair RAM to pair with my old Crucial RGB RAM. It functions properly and matches the speed. However, I've observed that the Corsair RAM tends to get quite warm. I can only hold it for about four seconds before it becomes uncomfortable. The metal heatsink on it is different from the plastic cover on the Crucial model, which explains the higher temperature. Is it typical for RAM to generate heat? I used to believe RAMs don’t produce much warmth. Please let me know if this helps with my old RAM (Crucial Ballistix RGB 16GB Kit, 2 x 8GB, DDR4-3200 Desktop Gaming Memory - BL2K8G32C16U4BL). My new RAM (Corsair VENGEANCE LPX DDR4 RAM 16GB, 2x8GB, 3200MHz CL16 Intel XMP 2.0 Computer Memory, Black) is working fine.

RAM heats up during use, which is completely typical. Various memory types experience significantly higher temperatures when working hard, while DDR4 tends to stay relatively cooler.

relies on slower XMP settings because you're not hitting the overclocking threshold. If it gets too hot, it might crash, especially with higher frequencies. A slight warmth could trigger a crash, similar to what happened with my 1520c7 DDR2 OC. Fans with heat spreaders usually stay cool, but Icy conditions differ. Some components tolerate heat better than others, which is why this isn't a big deal for me. Personally, I tend to place fans on my RAM mainly for stability reasons.
