I've experienced a strange and bothersome network problem lately. When a lot of bandwidth is consumed quickly, other apps suddenly lose internet access for a brief moment, while the app in question remains unaffected. This behavior is confusing and hard to describe. For instance, when I play a game and open my browser on a second monitor, the game disconnects from the network for a few seconds after loading a page—even though the browser works perfectly and other devices are fine. I'm certain it's only my PC that has this issue; all other gadgets are functioning normally. It's also possible that Wi-Fi is the culprit, since other devices seem to work just as well. I've tried resetting my computer and am open to any suggestions.

It seems like you're questioning why someone would point the finger at your ISP when the issue lies with your own PC. Just make sure your Wi-Fi is connected to the right network.

The issue might be unrelated to the change in ISP, possibly just a coincidence.

For testing, attempt to connect an ethernet cable from your PC to your router and run through the game and webpage scenario once more. Did they supply any hardware? It might be related to their router/modem package. I haven’t experienced much success with those devices before. I’d purchase a reliable router myself and use only the modem component they provided.

PC performance is really lacking. We don’t have the details about the specs. Playing games over Wi-Fi isn’t recommended. It might work, but using cable offers a much smoother experience!

System details: RTX 2060 with Intel i7-10700 at 2666MHz, RAM available. Location is upstairs—no Ethernet connection possible right now.

It seems like one app is consuming all the bandwidth at once, causing other apps to slow down temporarily. You might want to update your Ethernet drivers, see if any background processes are using them, and run a malware scan just in case. If you don’t need physical access, consider updating your router firmware to 5GHz and setting QoS to prioritize gaming. Reach out to your ISP for further help.
