I'm experiencing difficulty accessing GeForce Now due to compatibility issues with my laptop. I’d like to understand the reason and identify which component is causing the problem. My device is an HP EliteBook 8440P, equipped with an NVIDIA NVS 3100M graphics card, and it runs on an Intel i5-M520 processor with 8GB of RAM.

This graphics card is a Quadro model, not a GeForce one. Quadro cards are built for professional applications, whereas GeForce cards are intended for gaming. Your current GPU lacks DirectX 11 compatibility; it's limited to DirectX 9 instead. Furthermore, modern gaming GPUs typically feature over 1500 CUDA cores, a number significantly exceeded by the NVIDIA NVS 3100M which possesses only 16. Consequently, its processing power is substantially lower – you might be satisfied with basic games like Solitaire or Minesweeper. It can primarily run older titles (from before 2009) at a resolution of 1024x768 with reduced graphics quality.

Direct X 9?! I ran a DirectX diagnostic tool on my laptop, and it indicates that it’s compatible with Direct X 12.

Although your operating system might recognize DirectX 12, your computer’s components may not be compatible. You could disagree with this point, and it's true that the NVIDIA NVS 3100M includes DirectX 9 compatibility (or DirectX 10.1, based on a previous evaluation), yet NVIDIA GeForce Now necessitates at least DirectX 11 – and even if it did, the GPU’s limited 16 CUDA cores would prevent you from playing games intended for GeForce Now.
