Printer Model:
HP LaserJet M110w
Hello,
I'm ready to throw this printer out the window.
This is a wireless B/W LaserJet printer. I've connected to the IP address of the printer (192.158.0.163) which tells me that this wireless printer is connect to my router. In the Device Status, it says:
Status:
Set up the printer now.
Printer setup incomplete. Your HP+ printer must be set up using the HP Smart app. Visit 123.hp.com to download the app and complete the guided setup. Any pages you have printed were intended for setup and have been exhausted. If you completed setup, turn your printer off for at least a minute, then turn it back on. Wait a few minutes to let your printer status refresh and try to print again. Visit hp.com/plus-support for additional setup help.
So I've tried multiple times to use the HP Smart App to connect the printer. The result is exactly the same:
I've tried finding solutions to that error code: 0W_4XX-OWSWS00001. All the technical support staff at HP say the same thing - restart the printer and try again. Maybe position the printer closer to your computer and router this time.
Is setting up wireless printing supposed to be this difficult? Is this really the status-quo? It seems that, after Windows 11, USB connection with your printer is too 2010 now.
Do you have to be a professional network administrator to get a document printed from a wireless printer now?
So if you think I'm a fool for buying HP, tell me. Experienced this yourself, tell me. Drop kick this printer in the recycling, tell me. Know a b/w laserjet printer that works on Windows 11 in 2023, tell me.
We own an HP printer, on Windows 11 it seems to function but it wasn't me who installed it. Did they provide this support? Check the error codes OW_4XX_0WSWS00001 or UA_200_OWSVD00001 for guidance. Follow the recommended fixes from the article to resolve the issue with HP unable to register to your account. helpcontact247.com
I followed all the given instructions and now I have reached this point:
I connected to the printer's IP address (192.158.0.163), which indicates it is linked to my router. In the Device Status, it shows:
Status:
Set up the printer now.
Printer setup incomplete. Your HP+ printer needs to be configured via the HP Smart app. Download the app from 123.hp.com and follow the guided setup. Any pages you printed were meant for setup and are now used up. If you finished the setup, turn off the printer for at least a minute before turning it back on. Wait a few minutes for the status to update and try printing again. For more assistance, visit hp.com/plus-support.
an alternative idea is to refresh the printer's firmware -

since it might be attempting to reach the incorrect screen.
It's possible you're encountering issues with the Level 1 help desk who only repeat basic scripts without exploring deeper solutions to find a real answer. Alas, I don't know it either.

192.158.0.163 — likely a typo, should be 168. I anticipate "168" as the correct number. Determine the router's model and IP details by executing "ipconfig /all" through the Command Prompt on a functioning network machine. If uncertain, you can paste the output here without rewriting. In summary, consider setting the printer to a static IP that aligns with the router's configuration.
You're right, that's a typo. It seems you were trying to access the printer admin panel using the IP address 192.168.0.163. If you hadn't done that, you wouldn't have been able to reach it.
Good.
The IP address 192.168.0.163 is a static address assigned by the router for the print device using its MAC address—correct?
When you execute "arp -a" in the Command prompt, should the printer appear? You should see both its IP and MAC address. The MAC should show up on the printer and also in the printer’s admin interface and menus.
Can you access the printer’s admin pages and generate a configuration report?
If yes, please do so.
Review all the settings to confirm they match your network and printing needs.
It seems the issue may stem from incomplete printer setup. Your HP+ printer should be configured via the HP Smart app. Download it from 123.hp.com, follow the guided instructions. Any printed pages were meant for setup and are now used up. If you finished setup, power off the printer for a minute, then restart it. Allow a few minutes for the status to update before attempting to print again. For further assistance, visit hp.com/plus-support.
Not unusual to encounter problems when manufacturers require online configuration or certain apps to handle it.
You might be making adjustments, but the HP Smart app could be reversing them.
Make sure you confirm "Ok", "Save", or acknowledge the changes you make after completing them.
Well, there's been a development. The printer belongs to my father who lives an hour and a half away from me. He's spoke with HP technical support for two hours. Apparently, there are a number of orange clips inside the printer and drum that he had not removed which are described in the first-time startup guide. He's removed them now and the printer is printing everything in the queue (not just status reports that I managing to print). So we are both holding our breath and this technical support person will call again in two days.
I've just found this video clip that is far more enlightening than the other complete idiots whose videos I found first. Apparently, what I was trying to do in completing the setup of the printer is exactly what you should not do, because you are signing up for a deliberate scam by HP:
