Good afternoon everyone,
I’m experiencing a problem with my PC. Despite consistently achieving over 70 FPS in games, the experience feels much slower, around 30 FPS. I’ve shared my system details and welcome any suggestions. This issue has persisted for several years on my machine, and I haven’t been able to resolve it myself.
PC Specs:
MOBO: ASUS PRIME H510M-K
CPU: Intel Core i5 10400F @2.90GHz
GPU: RTX 3060 12GB
RAM: 16GB DDR4 2666MHz
SSD: 500GB
PSU: 700w Zeus ZUS-700
OS: Windows 11 Home 64-bit (tested all versions, 23H2, 24H2)
All drivers are current, and chipset drivers are up to date. I’ve also tried enabling XMP settings, but the performance remains unchanged.
This could be related to DLSS and other frame generation methods. The display might display a high FPS value, yet still feel sluggish. This is something I often dismiss when others focus solely on the impressive FPS figures in the corner instead of evaluating the game's quality and performance.
I would begin with the basics. Open the Windows Resource Monitor to check for any processes using maximum resources. I’d start by examining memory usage, as 16GB isn’t much for modern games, especially if other applications are running in the background.
There are more sophisticated tools such as hwinfo or msi after burner that provide detailed information about resource consumption.
I’d also verify that you aren’t using any screen capture utilities from Steam or NVIDIA. NVIDIA recently faced criticism for their new APP, which can negatively impact performance and is generally not recommended. Instead, I suggest uninstalling them and relying only on the drivers.
Once that’s done, try disabling or adjusting one video setting at a time to determine if it improves the experience. I’m not sure if your graphics card is powerful enough to handle many of the new DLSS features, but you need to be cautious about which settings you change.
