Hey, friends! Something odd is happening with my rig lately. I’m using a PCI Express Wi-Fi card at my parents’ place because of the pandemic. The model is Realtek 8812AE Wireless LAN 802.11ac PCI-E NIC. Previously it handled about 160 Mbps, but now it’s stuck at around 20 Mbps for both download and upload. I’ve checked everything—reset network settings, swapped the card, looked into all the device manager options, flushed DNS records, and more. Still no luck. Any ideas what might be causing this? I’m a tech-savvy user but this really caught me off guard. Thanks for helping out! Also, let’s get that Cyberpunk 2077 download sorted!

I'd look for available driver or Windows updates. If those aren't the issue, I'd verify your router settings to ensure they aren't restricting speed for that device.

Do you rely on Speedtest for your connection check? The Wi-Fi connection can vary, and there might have been recent updates between your router and your device.

I'm curious if you've encountered issues with 2.4Ghz instead of 5Ghz, which usually leads to slower speeds around 20Mbit. Does your router use one SSID for all frequencies or separate ones? It might be advantageous to have distinct networks for each band, allowing you to prioritize the desired frequency—since clients often choose the strongest signal, even a weaker 2.4Ghz can sometimes perform better than a faster 5Ghz connection.

I've tested various drivers, tried old ones, updated Windows, and rolled back drivers—nothing helps. Everything else works fine, but all my devices still get only 150-250 Mbps. The biggest issues seem to appear when nothing changes at all. Ha!

I've also attempted to force my card to operate solely in 5GHz mode, but it hasn't improved performance. I'll test using another network name next, though I haven't tried that yet. Thanks!

Renaming failed too. My connection stayed the same when I pinged the server, just like before it got capped. It seems like the issue might be with my card or a problematic Windows update... system restore didn’t help either. Thanks for the assistance!

Yesterday I decided to restart Windows, and it fixed the issue, though I’m still confused about what caused it.
