I just bought a new CPU called the Ryzen 7 1700x and put it in my Dell laptop, replacing an old one. At first, Windows asked if I wanted to change some security keys. When I said yes, my PC wouldn't turn on properly, even though I never turned on BitLocker before this. Now it just spins forever showing a message about repairing the system. It took me hours but I managed to get Windows running again after fixing the problem. But once I tried to enable TPM in the BIOS settings right after the new CPU came out, the spinning loop started back up and stayed there. When I put back my old 1200 processor, everything worked fine. Maybe the issue isn't with the first generation of Ryzen chips at all. I've looked everywhere for a fix but nothing helps. My BIOS is updated to version 1.5.0 and Secure Boot is turned on in that setting too.

Did you change your BIOS settings with that new processor?

Yeah, that old version wasn't working, so I needed to wipe everything and start over. Are you asking if that means wiping all of my data on the computer (BIOS) or just getting it ready for me to put in new stuff from a USB stick?

Basically, you're looking at a link to reset the BIOS settings back to what they were like when it first came out. It's not about updating anything right now. If you want to know more, check that Dell support page I linked above for the full steps on how to do this safely without messing up your system.

I wiped my Secure Boot keys, but not everything in my BIOS. I'll try again tomorrow. If it still doesn't work, what can I do next?

Hmm, I'm still thinking about this. Did my computer's old program recognize the brand of processor when I put it in?
