Hello!
I assisted a friend with some upgrades and encountered a problem. The PC powers on briefly before shutting off when the CPU power cord is connected, while without it, the fans and lights remain active.
Specs:
Memory: BioStar H310M
CPU: i7-7700k
Power Supply: Cooler Master Elite NEX 700W 80 Plus White
Note* The upgraded parts are the memory and the power supply. Previously, it used a standard HP Atayal rev 1 motherboard with an HP PSU, which had 4 pins for CPU power; the new one has 8 pins. Not sure if this affects things, but I wanted to share all the details.

Welcome to the forums, new member!
Your system specs: MB -> BioStar H310M, CPU -> i7-7700k.
Please note that your motherboard isn't compatible with this processor. The board requires 8th or 9th generation Intel chips. If you have a 7th generation processor, it should work best with a Z270 chipset board, as long as it wasn't damaged during installation.

Thank you,
That makes sense. It was surprising to learn it was 8700k, and everything was based on that until it was found to be 7700k, after which I overlooked the MB gen support.
Appreciate you bringing it to my attention.

The PSU is also terrible. It might be useful to detail the rest of your build in this order:
CPU, CPU cooler, Motherboard, RAM, SSD/HDD, GPU, Chassis, OS, Monitor.
Unless you're just trying to justify a full PC purchase.
