Your voice chat isn’t working because Windows needs to be activated first. Make sure it’s turned on before you try gaming again.

Click the volume control and choose "Open Sound settings". Ensure your microphone is chosen as the input device and you’re receiving levels from it. If it isn’t listed in the "Choose your input device" menu, open "Manage sound devices" and verify it’s enabled. Confirm your mic is connected to the right port, that port matches the correct header on the motherboard (if not using a direct board connection), and that the microphone lacks a physical mute button.

If you're using a device that combines headphones and a microphone in one cable, you'll likely need a splitter. I'm feeling a bit unsure about this.
