Hey everyone, I’m facing a problem where my PC shuts down completely, almost like a short circuit. It happens mainly when under heavy load, such as playing Flight Simulator, navigating menus, or loading games, though it doesn’t occur all the time. Temperatures seem normal. Initially, it was occasional, then became consistent during stress tests. After updating the BIOS, it stabilized but still crashes occasionally. I’ve also swapped out the PSU and replaced it with a new one, but the issue remains. After a crash, I have to turn it back on at the case switch; Wake-On-Lan doesn’t work.

System specs:
- CPU: Ryzen 7800X3D
- GPU: Gigabyte RTX 4080
- PSU: BeQuiet 850W (recently replaced, issue still present)
- Motherboard: MSI B650 Tomahawk WiFi
- RAM: G.Skill DDR5 6000MT/s

What I’ve tried so far:
1. Swapped the PSU (still has problems).
2. Updated BIOS (small improvement).
3. Stress tests are working fine.
4. Memory tests.
5. Event Viewer is empty.
6. Rebuilt the PC.
7. Installed fresh Windows.
8. Updated drivers.

What’s the most likely hardware fault causing this?

BeQuiet 850W is currently being replaced and the issue remains. The unit is still labeled Be Quiet! while the advertised power rating is 840W. Could you provide details about your motherboard model?

Have you attempted removing the GPU driver and then playing without installing it again?

Did you incorporate thermal barriers during the PC construction?

If you mean the rings at the screws, no. But there's insulation at the Mainboard itself. But I don't think that's causing the problem, since it's only crashing under load. My guess is either faulty GPU, Mainboard, CPU or RAM but i'm not sure which of them is the most likely to cause these random shutdowns under load.

My consideration was whether the heat from the module or other parts might lead to thermal expansion. But if that isn't the reason, issues like crashing or mouse stutter during heavy use are more likely due to caching or RAM speed problems. Still, a system failure is quite another matter. Assuming no contact-related short circuits, it could be the VRM overheating or being faulty initially. Have any overclocking attempts been made beyond Expo/Xmp?

This usually occurs due to CPU overheating or PSU safeguards activating. You mentioned the temperatures are fine. Could you share the exact readings for your CPU and GPU? Most likely, the PSU isn't managing sudden power surges from the GPU well. Change the power limit for your graphics card using MSI Afterburner. Reduce it by 10%.
