My computer shuts down after roughly 2 to 3 minutes of operation when the CPU light appears.
Background Information
The processor being discussed is a Ryzen 7 2700x, approximately five years old. It was overclocked for most of its life and operated at a voltage just below 1.4 volts.
The power supply changed from a 650W unit (a generic Gigabyte model) to a 550W unit (Seasonic G12 GC-550) three months prior to the issue, and it has functioned without problems during that time.
I’m not certain about the exact models of other parts, but generally it includes:
A mid-range Radeon RX graphics card (likely RX550),
An MSI B450 A Pro Max motherboard,
A 1TB M.2 SSD from Samsung,
4x8GB Kingston Fury RAM modules,
A Deepcool AK400 cooler,
2x500GB HDDs,
4 Deepcool fans.
The GPU, SSD, and RAM have remained unchanged for the past five years (except for two RAM sticks added a year ago). No hardware modifications have occurred in the last three months.
The system experiences heavy stress over time due to tasks like virtualization, simulations, and intensive I/O operations. It has been running continuously for longer than a typical desktop.
How the problem developed
One day during normal use the computer fails, flashing the CPU light for a few seconds before restarting. After this first failure, it can be powered on normally until suddenly, after 2 to 3 minutes, it shuts down again with the CPU light illuminated.
What I attempted
I tried several actions:
- Turned off the PC overnight
- Removed CMOS to reset BIOS settings
- Drained power by unplugging the cable, holding the power button for a while, and leaving it idle for hours
- Disconnected all fans except the CPU fan, left only one SSD connected, and removed two RAM sticks (possibly due to insufficient power from the new 550W PSU)
- Lowered clock speeds to 3GHz and attempted under-voltage settings (uncertain goals)
All these attempts led to the same initial failure. Is this the result of a damaged CPU after five years?

Attempt to eliminate the two recently added RAM sticks, ensuring they remain in slots A2 and B2. Check if this restores your system functionality.

Understand you should maintain below 1.25v to avoid damaging the processor.
A 24/7 workload would be too demanding at 1.4v.
Your motherboard features a Flash BIOS button on the back—consider updating the BIOS to a newer version and test it.

I've attempted using just the newer RAM first, then the older ones alone, but I'll try every possible combination again. I'll post a comment if that fixes it.
The system maintained around 1.375 volts most of its life, though it wasn't running continuously. I anticipate some CPU wear from those high voltages given the workload.
I thought about updating the BIOS, but I've done that once about a year or two ago. I'm worried the process might fail in the middle and leave the motherboard unusable. Should I be concerned?
