Hello everyone,
My computer is freezing unexpectedly—sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes during startup—but no BSOD appears. I assumed the mouse and keyboard were the issue, but background processes like virus scans or updates also froze. The only solution was holding down the power button to restart.

I tried the following without success:
- Disconnected all USB devices
- Reinstalled Windows 11
- Installed Windows 10
- Performed a fresh install on a different hard drive
- Ran memory checks
- Conducted a hard drive error check
- Verified CPU temperature
- Noted that my PSU seems to be failing

I bought the PC from Scan in the UK a few years ago; it’s a custom 3XS model.
Specifications:
Mobo: ASUS WS X570-ACE
CPU: Ryzen 9 5950x
GPU: RTX A4000
RAM: Corsair 64GB DDR4
Storage: 1 x M.2 NVMe 1TB SSD / 2 x Samsung 870 EVO 1TB SSD
PSU: Corsair 1000W

Thank you.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
Restarting Windows 11
Setting up Windows 10
Where did you obtain the installers for your PS? Did you run the OS in offline mode, then later install all necessary drivers for your platform via an elevated command (e.g., right-click installer > Run as Administrator) without using the internet?
Upgrading Windows to a different drive
In that regard, were all drives disconnected except the one you chose for installation? You may want to take a screenshot of your Disk Management view.
ASUS WS X570-ACE motherboard
Which BIOS version is installed on your board?
64GB Corsair DDR4 RAM
Do you have a link to the RAM model you’re using?
NVMe M.2 1TB SSD
What is the make and model of this SSD?
Corsair 1000W PSU
How long has the PSU been in use?
The only possibility I have is that the PSU is failing.
If you suspect it’s the power supply, you can eliminate it by obtaining a well-built PSU (at least 650W) and testing it. If your system freezes shortly after then, the PSU was likely the cause.
AMD Ryzen 9 5950x
What cooling solution are you using for the processor? What is your case model? What are the room temperature readings? What temperatures does the processor reach during lockups?

Have you checked the logs? Changed the ram modules? Try starting with just the boot drive and leave the others off. As you mentioned, it might be a psu issue. If you manage to get another psu to swap in, you can test the current one.

Hi,
I’m writing to share an update that might assist others facing a similar situation. After returning my PC to the manufacturer, they performed thorough diagnostics using OCCT Platinum and pinpointed the issue as a faulty motherboard. With the board no longer in stock and my system being three years old, they had to replace it under warranty—good news as there was only a week left! The replacement includes:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X
Motherboard: ASUS ProArt X670E Creator
RAM: 64GB DDR5 (two 32GB modules from Corsair Vengeance DDR5-5600)
I haven’t received the system yet, but I’m pleased with the outcome and looking forward to getting it working again.
Thank you to the two individuals who supported me in my original message—I truly valued their guidance!
