Hey everyone. I have an SFF PC built that functions perfectly outside the case, but becomes unstable when enclosed. I mean unstable enough to freeze to a black screen, crash, and then fail to boot for a short time—usually at least once a day. It works fine otherwise. The build uses a Dan A4-H2O case. The specs are: Ryzen 5800X3D with 32GB Corsair LPX-3600, MSI B550i Gaming Edge, 1TB NVMe Micron SSD (generic), 1TB NVMe Samsung 970 Evo 500GB, SATA Samsung 850 Evo Corsair SF-600 Sapphire Pulse 6700 XT, and a PCIe4 riser card (LinkUp included). I’ve checked all the standoffs and confirmed they’re correctly positioned. I even went through the RMA process for the riser, thinking it was the issue, but it didn’t fix it. The cables look secure. Right now, I’m starting to suspect a problem with the case itself—maybe it’s not grounding properly. I’m really confused.

Other components are also housed within the compartment... such as power controls and USB connectors, fans might malfunction, and there could be additional issues.

Set PCIe to Gen 3 in the BIOS rather than Gen 4. It's worth checking if there are ongoing problems with the risers not meeting Gen 4.0 standards.

Absolutely, he needs to try it outside with the riser for confirmation.

No additional supporters. The only unconnected part is the front panel USB connections, meaning USB 3 and sound are active.

If the stand-off positions are accurate, I’d remove all power sources from the case—like the power button, USB, audio, and fans next to the CPU—and test it that way. It might be a faulty cable, a bad reset switch, or something else.

Focus on one element at a time. Check for changes during testing. Proceed sequentially.

Minimal ITX setup. Extreme twists and pulls cost significantly more than typical configurations.

It seems to relate to heat management. That’s quite a lot of energy in an SFF setup. I think I’m on the right track with PSU OTP—updated September 2, 2023 by leclod
