The PC isn't shutting down promptly.
Your PC remains awake despite checking settings, reading aloud, and offering warm milk. The shutdown menu’s SLEEP command works, and it stays asleep consistently. Possible causes might be software or hardware issues not obvious from your current checks. Consider reviewing system logs, updating drivers, or testing with a different power source. If problems persist, consulting a technician could help.
It was better without it; I had to use formatting, and it wouldn’t react. About 2–3 years ago.
do you have any active programs running? at times my computer refuses to shut down when a video plays in VLC, the video stops but the program stays open, and the PC doesn’t power off. this tends to occur with Chrome while YouTube is open. are there any third-party tools for managing power settings that you’re using? some laptops, like Lenovo models, come with built-in solutions such as Lenovo Power Manager or similar. these applications often change the default Windows power options settings.
Checking through Task Manager didn’t reveal anything unusual. It seems MSI X Boost might be the issue, though it lacks sleep options. When I manually put it to sleep, it works fine and stays asleep, but it won’t actually power down. My main goal is for the monitor to shut off, but that’s not happening either.
sounds like either a software issue or something else is blocking it from going to sleep. check your lan or wifi adapters, mouse, keyboard settings to check if they're enabled to allow the device to wake the PC up. you could check your bios and disable wake on lan but for KB and mouse you gotta do it from within windows. still curious about a 3rd party software though. if all else fails, possibly its a windows issue. try running windows updates and check your mobo's site for any updates that my relate to this issue.
Need to test it this morning. I realize the mouse is probably not turned on—checked online it could be a problem. LAN wake-up works, but I’ll disable it for some troubleshooting. There’s a lot of NVIDIA and MSI components inside, which I’m not familiar with, so I’m not sure what might be causing it.
I disabled the wake-on-LAN feature and tried the Screen Saver, which is scheduled to begin after one minute. The activation still didn’t occur. This suggests the issue may lie in the timer system.
I omitted the adjustments in the "advanced power settings." If you modified just "turn off the display" and "put the computer to sleep," it’s possible the HDD settings remain unchanged. Check the advanced options thoroughly—there may be additional settings you missed. For more details, refer to https://www.technipages.com/windows-10-wont-sleep
