Hey there, I started assembling my first gaming PC a few weeks back. It’s been running smoothly until recently. Today I attempted to power it up, but nothing happened—no fans spinning or lights illuminating any part. During troubleshooting, I’ve done the following: checked the power outlet, unplugged all non-essential devices, removed my GPU, reconnected internal cables, and even took out the CMOS battery for a while. I also tried shorting the PSU cable, which caused the PSU fan to spin briefly, suggesting it’s at least partially working. So far, nothing has resolved the issue, so I’m leaning toward suspecting a faulty power supply or motherboard. Any suggestions for further checks would be super helpful!

Build details: Ryzen 5 7600, ASRock B650M Pro RS, Gigabyte Radeon Rx 7800 XT, MSI MAG A750GL power supply, 2*G.skill Flare x5 DDR5 16GB, Deepcool CC360 case, SSD with OS, HDD for extra storage.

Thanks a lot! Update: I rebuilt the PC inside the motherboard enclosure. Until then, nothing was turning on—no fans, no lights. It’s really frustrating.

Update 2: While gently tugging the ATX cable (PSU on), I got a brief PSU and CPU fan spin, but only for a second.

It seems like the motherboard's power connectors might be damaged. If the PSU passes the paperclip test and still doesn't work, the issue likely lies with the motherboard itself. It’s possible the power pins on the board are faulty. Since the PCIe slot has its own dedicated power traces, gently moving the GPU could have caused a short circuit, which might have triggered the system to start up.

It makes sense. Likely, checking a different motherboard would help confirm compatibility of the remaining parts.
