The PC fails to start when XMP is enabled, yet functioned properly with XMP for six months prior.
Hello,
I attempted to be detailed about the xmp problems I encountered, but it’s really challenging to grasp what’s going on.
My system has a CPU of 265k Intel Ultra, an MB of z890 ASUS gaming Wi-Fi, RAM from Dominator DDR5 7000MHz dual 2x16GB, some NVMe drives and a GPU RX 5070 Ti connected via an 850W PSU.
The main issues are that the PC won’t start properly—either it fully loads but doesn’t boot, or it only boots after several failed attempts that lead to the BIOS entering fail safe mode.
Bios access is only possible after a few boot loops, which forces me into a BIOS recovery mode.
The only workaround I found was disabling the XMP profile at 7000MHz, which had worked for six months without any problems.
I’ve tried everything: testing RAM with Mem86, running benchmarks, checking hardware and connections, adjusting voltage/frequency manually, and even tweaking profiles.
I’m unsure what might be causing this problem. If possible, could you provide a solution or help me get the PC to work?
Thank you for your understanding, I’ve tried all options but still can’t identify the cause.

How is the processor being cooled?
mb : z890 asus gaming wifi
what bios version do you have installed on your motherboard?
ram : dominator ddr5 7000mhz dual 2x16go
do you have a link to this ram kit? Are slots A2 and B2 already populated on your motherboard?
psu 850w.
850W is the advertised power rating, but what is the model of your psu? If this unit was from an older build, could you share its age and what it previously powered?
the only solution I found is to disable the xmp profile at 7000mhz, which worked for six months without problems.
you might also consider running a memtest with ten passes to check for any errors.
Hi,
Yes when I switch to auto mode (base memory) in the BIOS instead of XMP, the PC boots normally and passes all benchmarks.
My answer before each question. Thanks for your time. The PC won't accept any profile from 5600mhz to 7000mhz right now; only base frequency works.
MB : z890 asus gaming wifi
Searching for Z890 Gaming WiFi on Google reveals several SKUs featuring the Z890 chipset with Gaming added. I identified five models matching that description. For clarity, is this the Z890 MAX GAMING WIFI7 motherboard?
Motherboard model: Version 2401
No further details listed after that point.
For the RAM setup, if you're using the CMP32GX5M2X7000C34 module, plug it in A2 and B2.
Also checked the ram kit page; it appears on the memory QVL. You may want to adjust the RAM frequency manually to DDR5-6000MHz or DDR5-6000MT/s, keeping timings and voltage set to AUTO.
I attempted that auto and only slightly increased the frequency. The PC won't boot after the scenario. I'm curious about how it could function for six months then stop accepting XMP without updating drivers, software, or firmware.
What could have changed since everything was fine?
Have you refreshed the bios after everything worked?
Is your RAM a single unit or two identical 16GB part numbers?
Using mixed RAM might lead to problems.
If you successfully ran memtest 86 with no errors using the XMP 7000 profile, your RAM should be fine and the issue elsewhere.
Asus plans to install their app called armoury crate; it may cause problems—consider deleting or uninstalling it.
G.skil offers lifetime support for RAM.

No actual changes were made. A GPU driver update was released last week.
Bios has been refreshed since the problem began, but it didn't resolve the issue.
My system has a dual RAM identical on both A2 and B2. I can't run tests at XMP or outside the base profile. When I enable that setting in Bios, I don't see a PC start and instead get a continuous boot loop until it automatically enters safe mode, after which I can proceed to base frequency for further booting.
