It might actually be an unsupported RAM stick. Sometimes, certain modules can work with faster RAM even if they’re not officially supported. This could explain why they seem to be okay despite running at higher speeds.

i don’t have any xmp sticks on hand and won’t purchase any unless i need an ic that requires binning or a solid pcb like ddr3 psc, gdie, etc. the 6400c32 and higher are guaranteed to have a die from hyix, so it wouldn’t be wise to skip supporting them. it seems the xmp spec might depend more on the cpu than the board itself, though the board could still affect performance if it has inferior ram oc compared to others. i suppose a lower-end board would have been preferable, but the x58a ud3r offers decent performance with a good stick—some models can reach up to 3300 in bios and possibly higher on the best ones. a lower-end board would likely struggle more with high clock speeds, especially if it lacks a bios mod. i’m planning to keep my x58a ud3r until I can find a better board for ram oc, maybe something like an ud7 or 9. the g1 sniper/assassin might help a bit because of the distance between ram slots and the cpu socket, but i’m not sure if it’s enough.

It seems the issue isn't the MB, it could be resolved by updating the BIOS and chipset drivers.

Perhaps the update hasn't been applied yet. It's using the F3 version. I didn't include the USB drive with Windows, and it seems I can't even install the BIOS without one. I plan to do an update once I fix the BIOS and install Windows properly.

rated speed numbers are misleading for both the x58a ud3r and x58a oc, as they’re built for 2200 ddr3. The x58a oc actually boosts ddr3 performance significantly more than the ud3r. While BIOS updates can help, the underlying hardware still matters a lot. You can’t really make worse hardware run at the same speed as better hardware with comparable BIOS support.

It seems the RAM slots were meant for positions 2 and 4, not 1 and 3. That’s a big mistake... At least the system is functioning now.
