Hi, I’m trying to downgrade my PC from the i3 8100 to the G4400. Both use the same socket, which is good. After installing the new chip and applying fresh paste, the system won’t power on at all—just a brief fan spin before it stops. Any suggestions? Thanks!
I believe the G4400 is designed for a previous chipset, which means it may not function properly
They share the same LGA 1151 standard but different generations. The first version covers Skylake and Kaby Lake models (like G4400, G4400 X, etc.), while the second targets Coffee Lake and Coffee Lake chips (such as i3 8100). These sets aren’t compatible, meaning a G4400 wouldn’t fit with an i3 motherboard.
