your pc suddenly stopped working without any error messages, and it only started when you reconnected the 24-pin motherboard connector. it runs an msi 570x pro with a 9th generation processor. there were no overheating problems, but what caused it to stop?

If this has occurred just once, it’s probably nothing to stress over. Please let us know if you notice a recurring pattern.

It's been running for about half an hour. The only stress test I did was the Northstar client for Titanfall2.

A computer crash has no meaning by itself, particularly if it doesn't restart. The issue arises when your computer crashes repeatedly. Then you must identify the cause of the crashes.

You likely required a full discharge of power, turning the PSU backside switch on and letting all LEDs fade out or removing the power cord would have achieved the same result.
