If you have another setup nearby, follow my previous advice and inspect the drive.
Following more research, my friend indicated the drive came from another Windows laptop. It seems Windows might have been wary of the additional files. I suggested he try a repair using a Windows 11 installation USB. I’ll ask him to check the boot sequence.
