You might want to change the file type to .rtf and open it in Notepad. I remember it worked before. You’ll lose all formatting, but it’s worth a try.

I encountered an issue with a document where the password wasn't strong enough. I'm unsure which software was used, but it seems to be a brute force tool. It's available for free with a trial, so it might be worth testing.

Current version of Word? Security of the password? Based on my own checks, cracking office files is quick—just let it run all night. If you have an idea for the password length, it can really help speed things up.
