I recently upgraded my CPU from i5-8600k to i9-9900k and updated the BIOS to support the 9th generation. Everything functioned properly after installing the new chip, but now in the BIOS I can't find the old overclocking settings. My original 4600Hz target remains unchanged. Is it possible to enable overclocking on a Z370 board without upgrading to a Z390? If so, why does my i9 seem to be turboing to 4.6 even though I used the same settings as my i5? Would resetting the BIOS resolve this issue or erase my saved clock speed? My motherboard is an ASRock Z370 Killer SLI/AC and I'm running BIOS version 4.30.

A few configurations disappeared unexpectedly. For instance, on the Z370 boards, upgrading from an 8700k to a 9900k was similar for overclocking, though you adjusted values slightly. The core settings stayed consistent while minor tweaks were made.

He might be able to, but I favor BIOS overclocking over software overclocking because you can adjust the voltages more precisely using LLC and similar features.

It seems the feature you were expecting is missing now. Previously, you could toggle between Easy Turbo and Fast Turbo with a speedometer, and the advanced settings looked distinct. Now only CPU Ratio options appear, with no details like target CPU turbo. The info appears in yellow text instead of being editable. I didn’t realize Intel 8th Gen was included, so it should work if you can adjust there. My concern was whether a new motherboard would be needed.

Turbo could be a bit unclear in this context. The allcore 40 indicates that every core can reach up to 4GHz when under load, whereas turbo usually targets only a single core. You might adjust the settings to suit your needs, but stability at 47 GHz or higher is unlikely due to voltage limitations. If you have time, try testing different configurations to find what works best for you.
