Hackintosh setups in 2020 are still viable options. You're looking to run an OS for free, so it's a good idea to understand the basics before diving in. Your machine has an Intel i5 processor, decent RAM, and a decent GPU, which makes it a solid candidate. Keep in mind the hardware specs and consider what distro you're planning to use—some are more beginner-friendly than others. Testing it on your Acer Aspire E15 should give you a practical feel for performance and stability.

Nvidia graphics aren't compatible with hackintosh setups. They won't function, leaving you reliant on the integrated GPU only.

9XX / maxwell remains compatible, the final OS version that includes the OS driver. For beginners, watching tutorials on YouTube helps. Hackintosh setups are improving and becoming simpler, though it might be more straightforward on a PC.

Thanks for the question. I'm curious about the current situation with hackintoshes. What capabilities are available within macOS, and what features remain restricted? I'm also aware that cloud services aren't an option, so the entire Apple ecosystem is limited. Besides my curious nature, what could motivate someone to build a hackintosh in 2020?

With a well-constructed installation, all Apple functionalities should operate smoothly. My Hackintosh includes everything from iMessage to iCloud, Apple Music, and more.
