The online hack attack caused the PC to crash.
Hello everyone, I’ve had some issues with modders, hackers, and trolls playing GTA V online (just bought recently). They usually crash my game or end my session, but sometimes they manage to cut my network connection on both the router and the PC. After fixing it, I reset the network settings on my laptop using a flash DNS update—it took a while. Now I’m stuck with a blue screen of death and a PFN_LIST_CORRUPT error. I’ve already reported this hack to the UK police, but they say they can’t do much since no data was stolen. I think Rockstar North is responsible here—they have known about the vulnerability, yet they keep releasing products with such flaws. What are your thoughts?
They did provide a refund for the game... but I’m not sure if that’s sufficient. I’ve read about this issue in several discussions, and it’s been a long-standing problem for years. I’m using a brand new laptop with official software from one of the major game companies—this is really worrying since they appear to be accepting it.
It seems unlikely to be acceptable. There might be legitimate legal concerns behind this perception. I believe the best approach to ensure safety would be to eliminate multiplayer games completely.
Are you getting a refund? Did you really purchase it or did you receive it for free? They were offering the game for free on Epic Games for some time. "We regret that there are so many hackers and cheaters disrupting our game, making it unpleasant for anyone attempting to play online. Here’s your $0.00 refund, and the game has been removed from your library."
I purchased GTA V in August 2020, along with other GTAs for mobile as well. There was extra time during the COVID-19 pandemic, and I’ve played every one of their games—buying original versions since GTA2. Yes, the game is now available again at a discount.
Yeah, it's true the game has a history of security issues. Did you check anything before purchasing? At least RS is providing a refund option—I’d accept that and move forward, honestly. It’s probably why many people still play. (In tech talk, it’s called 'noobhunting'). Even though I haven’t played GTA V, they’ll keep trying until the service shuts down, so what are you really hoping for?
Thats an interesting 'idea' but the truth is it's a small number of games with issues on this scope and in case of GTAV this is just part of the culture, it started back then on PS3 (and I guess xbox) and the reason is that it happens in some games is that they're terribly programmed with loopholes everywhere and in GTAV's case it's so successful that the devs would be stupid to actually do something about it. yes, I'm sure they'll try fixing the most egregious stuff, but in the end in such an environment (with bad code) there isn't really anything much they can do. Tldr: make hacking extremely easy and you literally get what you paid for (which in this case is one of the most successful games in history afaik, and one of the buggiest...)
