I own an old Dell Dimension 4550 and am having trouble getting it to start. It seems the power button on the case isn’t working anymore, though I can still press it to turn it on when connected to a power source. Now it won’t power up at all.

It might be due to several factors. PSU issues and failing MB are possible causes.

If the whole setup isn't working, connect the PSU's 24-pin green wire to a ground wire and turn it on to see if it powers up.

The backup power indicator stays lit on the motherboard after connecting it. This suggests the system is still functioning despite its age.

I also attempted a short circuit and it worked perfectly. The fan started and functioned normally.

A tiny green indicator is present right by the power outlet for the motherboard. If this is the backup power light, it should illuminate when activated.
