What factors might lead the Nvidia Panel to revert to its standard configurations? (I understand that updating drivers with a chosen 'clean installation' can trigger this behavior, but occasionally the panel and app reset their settings unexpectedly.)

Update your update with complete hardware details and operating system specifics. Provide PSU information including make, model, wattage, age, and condition (original, build, refurbished, used). List all connected peripherals. Check Reliability History/Monitor, Event Viewer, and Update History for any error codes, warnings, or events recorded near the default reset point.

I think the Windows update might be causing issues during installation. On my work PC, this happens when I run a specific profile for my inspection software. After updating Windows, the control panel settings often revert to their defaults.

I've noticed this often lately; the Global Profile appears to lose settings at times. I believe in-place driver updates might be the issue, though I haven't applied one recently because the latest drivers have been unstable.
