Gaming on PC has grown a lot lately, especially with more people using Linux. After some poor updates a year ago, I switched to a new Linux system and was impressed by its progress. My Manjaro setup still needs my Windows drive for Oculus Rift and EAC games, but EAC is reportedly getting better support. I’m curious how many of you have tried Linux or are planning the switch.

I've been running Linux across all my machines for nearly five years, except for my desktop. Game support has only recently improved enough to justify moving there, and I'm likely to wait until upgrading so I can run Windows inside a KVM setup without worrying about compatibility while keeping Linux.

I had been using Linux for many years before eventually moving back to Windows on my desktop. I still rely on Linux for servers. I generally don’t consider Linux ideal for a desktop environment, even now. Certain distributions stand out—like the newest Linux Mint—it feels very tidy and pleasant, though it doesn’t quite meet my expectations.

I'll attempt to use Linux once Windows 7 is no longer functional.

I changed my setup to Linux Mint since Windows 1809 feels unstable.

I've been using Linux for at least fifteen years, mixing it with Windows. Right now I stick to Linux just for my desktop; gaming works fine there, and I own a PS4. My main reason to move away from Windows is that I paid the full price for Windows 7 Ultimate. It's now updated to Windows 10, and I expect a clean OS without extra features or data mining at that cost.

My computer runs Windows 10, while my laptop and server are using Ubuntu.

I really like Linux, but for PC gaming it doesn't seem to be worth it at the moment.

I tried, but NVIDIA drivers for Linux seem unreliable.

I've been using KDE for all my work tasks because I'm tired of Windows constantly resetting everything every update, messing with the start menu, breaking the control panel, and wasting processing power on unnecessary telemetry without any notice. The only reason I'm not at home is due to origin issues and the Blizzard launcher not working at all, plus some Steam games still having problems. The RTX 2070 drivers aren't great right now either. (I know you can still manage it if you try, but I'm lazy and if updates break things, just be annoyed.) I've also messed up many Linux installations by installing GPU drivers, AMD drivers are the worst.
