I completed two upgrades today. The graphics card went from 5600X to 5900X and the power supply changed from an EVGA 750W unit to a Be Quiet Pure Power 13M 1000W model (new from Amazon). I’m comfortable with these changes and have swapped CPUs before. After connecting the new PSU, the system booted normally for a short time but then froze after just a few minutes. It wouldn’t respond at all—pressing Control-Alt-Delete didn’t help. Windows 11 stopped working right after logging in for a brief period. I’ve tried using DCOP and without it, with BIOS set to default, but nothing changed. The 5900X was from a stable machine a few days prior. The motherboard is ROG STRIX B550-XE and the GPU is Zotac 4080. It seems the PSU problem might be connected to the new power supply. Anyone have any ideas how this could cause the hang?

It was a Gigabyte X570 Auros Master. It performed reliably except for a loud fan noise when it started. I plan to test the 5600X next for troubleshooting. Thanks.

Did you also swap out every PSU cable or simply use the same ones before? The plug connectors are unfortunately not uniform.

He claimed he had experience with PSU swaps before. It’s likely he wouldn’t have wasted the same cables again.

If the windows installation is stuck, it might have been damaged when the power supply failed. Consider trying a live Linux setup to test functionality. If successful, it suggests the issue was limited to the PSU.

It looks like the system was running on Windows but had some problems opening certain apps. I tried updating via Windows Update and used the repair option, which resolved the issue. After that, I removed the 5600x and installed a 5700x, confirming everything works fine now. I’m curious about the 5900x that was present when the power supply failed—thanks for your help!
