I recently jut got a Ryzen 3900X with new RAM and Mobo. I installed it the other day and seemed fine but the CPU is really tosty and fans are ramping, then randomly at times, Windows will lock up. I do understand that this type of CPU is one to get decently hot but my testing is all over the place. I had used a Be Queit! Dark Rock 3 (i think, but definatly not the Pro) and the idle on Windows was around 40-50 Degrees but when randomly, Most commonly exiting any game (CS:GO, Fortnite, TF2, Forza Horizon 4 so far) Windows will lock up fully, I can still open the Start Menu but cannot restart, shutdown, open apps etc, I Have to fully power off by the power button. I have reseated the heat sink, checked thermal paste etic and all seems fine, but idle temps seem high. Furtehr testing (3DMark Time Spy and Forza benchmark), the CPU goes up to 80 Degrees (and fluctuates around there) Just in case, I tested with the given Wraith cooler and the idle temps fluctuates more and is 10 degrees more hotter. What I would like to know is: - Are these temps "normal" with the cooler (Dark Rock 3)? - What cooler would be reccomended (Air or AIO, not planning to OC seeming this CPU gets tosty and im in Australia....... so its already hot enough) or what i have is fine? - Are these temps cause this system lock specifically or it something to do with the games.? New setup details are as below: - CPU: Ryzen 3900X - Cooler: Be Quiet Dark Rock 3 (i think 3, not the Pro) - RAM: 2x16GB 3600Mhz Trident Z - MoBo: Asus Prime X570-Pro - GPU: GeForce RTX 2080 Founders Edition - PSU: 1000W Corsiar RM1000i - Case: NZXT H500i + 2 additional fans (total of 4 Case fans) (Corsair LL140 RGB)
It can get quite intense after an hour of running Prime95. The exact temperature depends on your system, but you can expect significant heat buildup.

80°C is actually a reasonable heat level during stress testing, as the CPU can sustain up to 95°C before throttling. I faced a similar problem earlier. After shutting down a game, Windows became unresponsive for a few minutes. It turned out the hard drive was failing, which caused the issue, though that shouldn't happen with a 970 SSD.
Avoid assuming this M.2 SSD is brand new; it worked well on another motherboard before I upgraded mine
Storage efficiency might lead to these problems, but NVME SSDs are less likely to be affected. If you attempt to access a file from an HDD, the file and related data can become unresponsive when the HDD is fully used. Background tasks could also contribute to lockups, and numerous other factors may be involved.
From my recollection, the Task Manager didn't report excessive hard drive usage, but it might be worth verifying.
Thanks to the cooler, my temperatures stayed consistently high in the 90s. With the Ninja Scythe 5, I’m running slightly cooler than you despite similar workloads. AVX performance is another factor. The settings you use also play a role—there’s a method to disable PBO, which can significantly lower temps and reduce single-core strain.
