The new memory doesn't fit your laptop.
I own a Dell G15 5520 with 2X8GB RAM sticks. I purchased two Corsair 16GB modules to match the specifications and double-checked the guides and forums, but when installing they trigger an "Invalid memory installed" error. I also tried one stick in each slot without success. The Dell support page lists this as a known issue, and the Newegg listing confirms compatibility. Could you verify the RAM type matches the motherboard? Thank you!
Welcome to the forums! According to page 12 of the Dell G15 5520 setup guide, the model supports 32 GB, 2 x 16 GB, Dual-Channel DDR5 at 4800 MHz. Since your warranty is active, I’d reach out to them for additional troubleshooting advice (assuming you don’t have another DDR5 laptop to test). Then I’d file a return merchandise authorization for the RAM since it appears to be faulty.
Hello, thank you for your message! I reached out to Dell support, but they didn’t provide much assistance. The technical team kept pushing me toward sales, and sales redirected me back to technical support again. Eventually, I spoke to someone who was ready to help. They mentioned the memory should function in theory, but it seems there was an unexpected invalid memory error instead of a real issue. I think it would be best to return the product to Best Buy.
Consumer Dell help is really bad, sorry! Hope your RMA goes well.
The message comes from a Google search and suggests you must retain at least one original module, which seems confusing. It questions how the system identifies your installed software. The likely explanation is that it verifies the serial number against the BIOS logs, similar to secure boot functionality. You might attempt to power it down, though an encrypted drive could cause unexpected issues.
I believe this device won’t work due to the lack of 24GB settings. I haven’t disabled secure boot yet, but I’ll check that first. Thanks!
