I deleted my Apple ID from my account on my Mac and now there are no users left. It won’t let me reinstall macOS Big Sur because there are no users. The data doesn’t matter. I need this working without an Apple ID—it’s a work computer, specifically an M1 MacBook Air. I’ve attached the error message it shows.
You might need to reinstall because deleting your Apple ID doesn't always restore access immediately, and some settings or data could be lost.
I removed my Apple ID which deleted my user account, making it impossible to access Mac OS. I’m booting into recovery each time. I don’t care about the data.
When you start in recovery using Command-R, it might be possible to generate a new account from there. If that fails, you may need to build an installation file on another Mac.
I cleared your Apple ID by logging out. This shouldn’t have affected your account, but it seems the user profile is missing. Because no active account exists, macOS won’t let you reinstall since it can’t recognize the user. If you don’t need the data, you can use Disk Utility to wipe the disk and start fresh with a new installation. For data retention, check if your files are reachable on another Mac connected via Thunderbolt.
It's worth mentioning that there have been numerous updates to restore and reinstall processes for Intel Macs. Pressing Option won't display the boot menu, you must hold Power instead. Deleting all partitions on the boot disk will damage the system, rendering it unrecoverable without additional media, and continuing in this manner. Simply wiping the Macintosh HD partition (don’t delete!) and then performing a reinstall appears to be the best approach here.
