Hello, I own a Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 with a Ryzen 5 5600H, GTX 1650, and 8 GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM. It has only 6 usable GB of memory. Games such as Team Fortress 2, Minecraft, and Fallout: New Vegas are running poorly. I’ve updated all drivers, chipset, and BIOS. Everything seems to be working fine except for stuttering and performance issues. My PC got a clean install and new thermal paste three days ago, but nothing changed. A fresh Windows installation didn’t help either. Is the problem related to RAM? My system uses 4 GB when Chrome is running, leaving only 2 GB available. Could it be a RAM bottleneck issue? The laptop has a 256 GB SSD, which is used by both Windows and some games.

Consider launching Task Manager while playing a game or configure MSI Afterburner in-game to monitor CPU, GPU, and RAM usage. Look out for thermal throttling. You can find instructions in the provided video.

It would be beneficial to add another 8GB of RAM. With only one 8GB unit installed, you gain extra memory by installing another 8GB and also enable dual-channel operation. It’s highly likely the system uses JEDEC standard RAM and you should aim for a compatible option like Crucial. Avoid XMP RAM as it probably won’t function optimally. Verify whether this setting is supported in your model—if not, check if you can configure it to use only the discrete mode instead of dynamic mode. This will free up the 2GB reserved by the AMD APU. Don’t attempt to adjust settings via Windows; use the BIOS instead. If unavailable, you might be able to reduce the reserved 2GB, though the BIOS warns against it. The effect on performance remains uncertain.
