Switching to a new ISP means fiber router with no Wi-Fi. Choose a 1Gb package—need a PoE switch, at least two APs. Ubiquity and Ruckus are options. Top floor has one AP on ceiling; bottom floor likely on bookshelf. Switch must support 1Gb and POE. VPN management is key.

Connect the device to the old ISP router's wan port, which serves the switch and one access point.

It's time to purchase a router that includes an integrated switch and a solid AP.

You mentioned switching to one router with two APs, but I thought you meant a simpler setup using just one router and a single AP. That should cost less.

Are you certain your ISP is providing you with a router? It seems they might be sending you an ONT, which means you’ll need a router. Since your ISP should only allocate one IP address, you’ll likely require NAT to distribute it across all your devices. Most routers include built-in switches and APs, so that’s why they don’t appear to be offering just a router. Regarding POE equipment, Ubiquiti appears to be a popular choice for cost-effective solutions. If you’re okay with used gear, I’ve heard many people find good deals on eBay for enterprise equipment. From an AP perspective, Ubiquiti is often the go-to brand when people search for reliable options.
