Last weekend I purchased an RTX 4060 at a reasonable price in my nearby tech shop. Since getting this GPU, I've encountered several issues. I had to reformat my PC multiple times in an attempt to fix a problem that still hasn't been resolved. This seems unusual because before the 4060, everything worked smoothly with my GTX 1650 (no freezes or stutters), and after installing it, running the old GPU and a 750 Ti system also performed well. I don’t believe the issue stems from insufficient power supply or CPU bottlenecks, as similar setups have never caused problems for me. When I last reformatted, I ensured only the SATA SSD was connected to confirm everything was stable. After updating the motherboard drives and applying Windows updates, I proceeded with graphics updates using the Nvidia software. However, after installation, my computer froze completely. I lost control of the mouse and keyboard, and the screen became stuck on the desktop—something that had occurred before too. I’m puzzled by this, especially since my previous purchases had no issues. I’d appreciate your assistance in identifying the cause and figuring out the right steps to take.
It seems this might be a defective 4060 model. You could try it on another computer or ask a friend to lend their machine. Avoid any actions that might cancel the warranty. After testing, if it doesn't work on the other PC, bring it back to the reseller.
Exactly, I used ddu to uninstall all the drivers I had previously installed, and evem tried with an rx 6650xt, and got no problems with it. Afterwards, I used ddu again to remove all the drivers, proceeded to format my pc, and after doing the gpu drivers update, my screen froze. I'll be trying today again to format my pc, and update everything with my 750ti connected to see if I have any problem.
Did you get the drivers from the MSI website? Some makers modify drivers, which means Nvidia’s versions might not perform as well. If MSI doesn’t provide their own drivers, it could suggest the GPU is defective. Perhaps that explains why it was so inexpensive at first?
Check the drivers on their site and go straight to NVIDIA’s page. The discounted item was marked as brand new during a Back to School campaign, which seems harmless.
