I recently switched from a 32 and 28 inch 4K monitor setup to a Samsung Odyssey G7 at 28 inches with 144Hz. I also purchased the Samsung G34 for simracing. The G34 came first, and after installation I experienced the issue where the PC wakes up from sleep but the monitors fail to receive any signal. Initially, reseating the DP cable restored the connection, but this stopped working afterward. The problem persisted with the G7 as well. For a few days it seemed to stabilize by matching the monitor shutdown and sleep timings, though it returned and worsened. Now it often freezes or crashes the PC (3060 Ti, Ryzen 5 5600, 48 GB RAM, ASUS TUF B450M Wi-Fi). I've tried swapping the DP cables between the boxed ones and my current setup, unplugged the G34 so only the old 28" monitor and G7 remain connected. I updated the drivers multiple times without success. I’m unsure what to do next beyond those basic adjustments. A forum suggestion mentioned using 60 Hz, but changing the DP cable again would feel like a temporary fix.
I would just visit the settings in InWindows and tweak the power-saving options. I’m connected to the computer or I turn it off completely. I haven’t used the sleep feature for a long time. Just pick under screen and system and make sure they’re set to never sleep. That screen turning off after 15 minutes has always caused more hassle than any energy saved. I faced this problem years ago when downloading from Steam; while waiting, I’d read a book or newspaper, and the screen would shut itself off often, forcing me to restart but unsure if the game was done. Since then I adjusted the settings and never revisited them again.
@johnno23 shares their experience. They haven't used sleep mode for a long time. The system saves the screen if they're away longer than ten minutes, and the monitor turns off after two hours. They keep the computer running 24/7 unless on vacation, using only minimal power. They believe the fridge compressor consumes more electricity during regular operation.
Great decision! It might seem odd at first, but the benefits of taking breaks from a screen are worth exploring. Windows definitely makes this easier. Curious about why it works for you.
