The new CPU and motherboard aren't functioning properly.
I recently purchased a new motherboard and CPU. After installing them, it started up smoothly within minutes. However, it began turning on and off unexpectedly. I disassembled it and tried again, but the issue persisted. I then bought another motherboard and CPU without any differences, yet it still wouldn’t start. Anyone can assist with troubleshooting?
You have a fresh CPU and motherboard, but other components remain unchanged. It might be the power supply unit, graphics card, or another factor. A PCPartPicker.com spec list would be helpful.
the mobo and cpu are the items i purchased recently; all others were already available. i couldn't locate the hdds i had, but they are wd and seagate brand pcpartpicker part list items. the cpu is an amd ryzen 7 3700x 3.6gHz 8-core processor priced at $258.99 on amazon. the motherboard is gigabyte x570 aorus ultra atx am4 for $299.99 on newegg. the memory includes corsair vengeance lpx 16gb (2x8gb) cl18 at $59.99 each from amazon. the video card is gigabyte radeon rx 5600 xt 6gb gaming at $289.99 on newegg. the power supply is corsair txm gold 850w with 80+ gold certification, semi-modular atx design. total cost comes to $968.95, including shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts, generated by pcpartpicker on 2020-09-08.
I've made that attempt, but it doesn't turn on at all—just produces a click when I press the power button.
You need to use your GPU since the CPU lacks built-in graphics. Have you made this adjustment?
Great question! It seems like the connection might be off or something on the power supply could be faulty. Since both your motherboard and CPU are new and show the same problem, it’s possible the PSU isn’t delivering enough power. Double-check that everything is securely inside the case and try a different power source if needed.
