Recently, my system experienced strange behavior—random reboots and problems with booting. After running a RAM test with Memtest86, I suspected the issue was related to the CMOS battery. This board is nearly five years old and was due for a replacement. I couldn’t locate the BIOS setting that displayed the CMOS level, so I searched online and found that in HWMonitor, the VBAT section under the motherboard shows the battery status. Initially, it read 2.888V, which is below the 3.0V threshold linked to random errors. I replaced the battery with a new Energizer unit about a week ago. When I checked HWMonitor again, the reading dropped to 3.264V. Over the past week it has decreased three times, now standing at 3.096V. The value remains steady and doesn’t change much. My PC is functioning normally, but I’m concerned about these fluctuations. Is this typical? Am I misinterpreting the readings? Please let me know your thoughts.
To prolong battery life, avoid turning off the power supply or power strip when shutting down your computer.
