Hello, first time poster, long time YouTube subscriber. This is my first AMD build but have been building on Intel for 20 years+ and looking for a little assistance please. I was very fortunate to grab the last Ryzen 9 5900X in my area, possibly in the city, on Monday and very excited to update my i7 4770K system with: Asus TUF Gaming B550M-Plus (WI-FI) AMD Ryzen 9 5900X Corsair Vengeance LPX Black DDR4-3200MHz 32GB kit (2x 16GB) Everything POSTs fine initially, however, when I enable the XMP Profile 1 (Asus DOCP) it will not POST and the DRAM error light is lit on the motherboard. I can reset the CMOS and it will POST again. I can manually set just the speed to 3200 and it will POST. The RAM is 2666 but advertised as 3200 16-18-18-36 1.35v The RAM is on the motherboard's compatibility list and is the correct ver. at the advertised speeds and timings I have not yet updated the motherboard BIOS I am aware that XMP is an Intel thing but with the RAM being on the motherboard compatibility list, should I be expecting this to work out of the box? Perhaps a BIOS update (if it even needs one) will resolve this, I'll try tonight, but if not, can this be called faulty memory and returned or am I going to be told XMP is Intel only? Thanks in advance for any assistance and I will update if there is a BIOS update
You haven't set up your operating system yet. If you haven't, leave XMP off until you install it to maintain stability (this might explain why it isn<|pad|>). If you've installed the OS, the RAM is likely faulty, which is quite common nowadays.
It's actually quite amusing, especially since I'm using a 5900X with 3200MHz RAM and a Gigabyte B550 Aorus Master AX v2. I've faced issues trying to push the RAM beyond 3200MHz on my own (Gigabyte's BIOS is really lacking) and noticed the XMP settings can be inconsistent. Still, I'm curious—does it boot up to Windows at all?

I haven’t pushed beyond basic motherboard overclocking; stability and durability are my priorities, so I’m curious about timing relationships. At 3200 MHz the voltage defaults to 1.35V. If needed, I’ll experiment with specific timings. I’ve tested each RAM separately using XMP and got consistent outcomes. No, the operating system hasn’t been installed yet—I was planning to apply target settings first but now consider stress testing at 2666. The OS will be Windows 10 Pro. Well, the situation turned quite serious after trying to upgrade the BIOS. I ran into a typical ASUS problem where the UFEI claimed the downloaded BIOS wasn't valid, forcing me to waste time without a clear path forward. Eventually, I opted for Windows 10 and attempted an upgrade from there. The process was problematic, resulting in significant input lag. After rebooting, the system didn't clear the POST or show any error lights on the motherboard. I'm unsure if I should switch to a different motherboard or simply discard the components and start anew with another Intel build. This build has been the most challenging since I misconnected the power connector and damaged my brand new 386.
So, an update. After finding a beta BIOS that worked, the XMP profile is working well and Windows is installed. Haven't had time to stretch the 3900X's legs but I have high hopes and the input lag is long gone. As for the failure to POST, it was an unfortunate coincidence that my monitor decided that exact day to fritz-out. Not die completely but somehow the HDMI input has failed in a bizarre way. I wanted a new one anyway. Guess the point here is that new boards with new chipsets get a lot of DRAM compatibility updates after they've shipped the first batch.
