My MSI Z170A SLI Plus board includes an OC Genie that automatically boosts my 6700k to 4.4GHz. I've been using this setting for about six months now. Recently, I noticed the voltage remains steady at 1.320 volts during idle and drops slightly to 1.304 when gaming. Some advice suggests a maximum of 1.25V for regular use, while others mention 1.35V is acceptable. It seems odd that the idle voltage is higher than under load. I want to avoid manual overclocking after my previous FX 8320 failure, but I’d consider it if it could extend CPU life. If 1.32 is too high, what voltage should I try manually to hit the same 4.4GHz? I understand voltages vary, but I’m looking for a general range.
You need to perform the overclock manually to reduce the voltage. Alternatively, just set the i7 to 4ghz or 4.2ghz, as there isn’t a significant performance difference between these speeds in most cases.
