The MSI MAG motherboard has an orange DRAM LED but no screen visible.
I built my PC from scratch for the first time. Below are the specifications:
Motherboard: MSI MAG Z790 Tomahawk WiFi Gaming Motherboard
RAM: TEAMGROUP T-Force Delta RGB DDR5 RAM 64GB (2x32GB) 6000MHz PC5-48000 CL38 Desktop Memory Module RAM FF3D564G6000HC38ADC01
CPU: Intel Core i7-13700K
SSD: Samsung 990 PRO Series - 1TB PCIe Gen4. X4 NVMe 2.0c - M.2 Internal SSD (MZ-V9P1T0B/AM)
PSU: Corsair HX1500i, HXi Series, 80 PLUS Platinum Fully Modular Ultra-Low Noise ATX Digital Power Supply (Triple EPS12V Connectors, 140mm Fluid Dynamic Bearing Fan, Zero RPM Fan Mode)
GPU: ASUS TUF GeForce RTX® 4090
CPU Cooler: DeepCool LT720 Liquid Cooler 360mm Multidimensional Infinity Mirror ARGB Block 300w TDP 4th Gen.
Once I connected the monitor and keyboard, powered it up, and waited, I noticed a steady DRAM orange glow, but no screen appeared. The manual suggested the RAM might not have loaded properly, yet I wasn’t sure if that was the main problem—since I also used another RAM type.
A bit of context:
At first, I had connected everything, including the GPU and monitor, linking them to the GPU’s HDMI and testing it; I saw a white light but no display. Then I removed the GPU (and disconnected the PSU from the GPU), plugged in the monitor directly to the motherboard, and still got the white light without a screen. Later, I realized my monitor was faulty—replaced it with another and it worked, giving me a display. After that, I reconnected the GPU, reinserted the monitor, but the orange DRAM light persisted. I took out the GPU, put the monitor back in, and it remained stuck on the orange light. The PSU and CPU cooler fans were running, and the RAM lights were active.
I followed these steps:
1. Rechecked all connections—appeared normal.
2. Tested each RAM stick individually across all slots, making sure to hear the click at both ends.
3. Reinstalled the GPU and removed it again, but no improvement.
4. Switched to a different 3V coin battery.
5. Tried a new RAM set: Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) 5200MHz C40 Intel Optimized Desktop Memory. Tested in all slots without success, also tried single vs dual sticks.
6. Verified that no CPU pins were bent and all connections were secure.
7. Disconnected everything except the CPU, RAM, motherboard with PSU—no external help.
8. Attempted a reset by pressing the CMOS button.
9. Inserted the MSI pendrive with the motherboard and pressed the BIOS flash button.
Despite these efforts, the issue persists. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! See attached images:
