Recently I encountered an issue with my computer where the mouse cursor functions perfectly but only responds to clicks within one process or window. It appears to be restricted, as if it's trapped inside a modal window—cursor movements are limited to that area and won't react to anything outside. If I press Ctrl+Alt+Del to open the task manager, everything resets for a short time, allowing me to interact normally with other windows. However, after some time, the same restriction reappears unpredictably. Any suggestions or solutions would be appreciated.

Try a clean boot and observe if it alters the outcome — follow the guidelines carefully and ensure no Microsoft services are disabled or Windows won’t load properly. It doesn’t remove anything; it simply halts non-Microsoft applications when they’re started. If this resolves the issue, it suggests a startup program is likely the cause. Over several restarts, restart the programs you stopped to pinpoint the culprit.

I just attempted a clean boot and turned off all Microsoft applications along with the task manager, yet the issue persists.

Certainly, these programs are designed this way. They are typically intended for full-screen use without interaction with other windows.

It occurs even with Chrome, as it locks onto the active tab and prevents switching to others.

Ensure hardware acceleration is turned off in Chrome's browser settings.

Create and model the mouse? What is its age?
If it's wireless - consider replacing the battery.
= = = =
Check if a different functional mouse works without click issues in your system?
Test the mouse on another operating system.
Identify whether the issue is related to the mouse or persists on the computer.

The mouse I'm currently using is the razer basilisk, though I don't remember exactly when I acquired it. This is the second one I've been employing.

Maybe there are some faulty or damaged files.
Attempt using the built-in Windows Troubleshooters. They might locate and resolve the issue.
If those don't help, try "dism" and "sfc /scannow".

I'm experiencing the same problem now, which is really bothersome and new to me. I own a huntsman mini and a Viper v2 pro, so I think it might be an issue with Razer or Windows.
