Hey everyone, I just completed a server transplant into a new case and ran into a curious problem. My motherboard is a Supermicro X11SSM-f. After moving in, it won’t boot unless I reset the CMOS by removing the battery and holding it in a specific position. The Supermicro tech support had suggested this before they gave up on troubleshooting. At first, I thought a short circuit in the case was the issue, so I removed the motherboard and got the same result. Recently, I switched to a new power supply, but using the old one still causes the same issues. My board is working fine when bench-booted, but it stays off until I clear the CMOS again with the battery. Any advice would be super helpful.
Occasionally this indicates a partially bricked BIOS. I'm guessing it's stuck in S3 sleep instead of a power-off detection. If it doesn't respond after a while, try pressing the space bar on the keyboard to see if it boots. (Just a guess...) More details will need to be gathered first, usually beginning with overall system specifications...
