Some SATA connectors become inactive when using SATA M.2 devices. Plugging a hard drive into the wrong connector may confuse the BIOS or cause it to try activating the SSD and then disconnect it. Check your motherboard’s manual to identify which ports are incompatible with M.2 slots. You’ll need a SATA DATA cable for communication between the drive and the board, and a SATA POWER cable for power delivery. After securing the connections, boot up the computer and press DEL or F2 (or another key) to enter BIOS. There you’ll see all detected drives, including an option to set the boot order—place your SSD first if you want Windows to start.
