I've faced constant problems with AM5 - EXPO, the system failing to boot, and no GPU support. It's really frustrating.

Noted several complaints about ASUS, but I've tested the ASUS TUF B650 PLUS WIFI in seven builds without any problems. EXPO used the Fury Beast 5600 and 6000 cl36.

I purchased an MSI Pro X670 Wi-Fi, a Gigabyte unit and an Asus device, all of which encountered problems. I believe I’ll conduct further troubleshooting and consider buying another board.

Aourus gaming x670 elite AX appears to be a top choice currently. The model isn't overpriced compared to other options, and level one techs highlight its strong VRM and PCI design for optimal performance. It features four M.2 SSD slots, with the first being Gen 5—useful since most modern GPUs don’t use Gen 5 and won’t block the lanes. Multiple reviews confirm consistent top results, often just a slight edge over competitors.

The Gigabyte B650 AORUS Pro AX has worked flawlessly for me and my friend. It started without any problems, boots up the first time easily, EXPO functions properly, and memory settings remain stable whether enabled or disabled.

Overall, my Asrock X670E Taichi has performed very well, with minimal issues even after a lot of BIOS updates. It's remained stable at EXPO without any problems.

It looks like a mixed outcome. My ASUS Strix B650E-E Gaming board was great for me, yet others using the Strix E-F model faced many problems.

In short, the discussion highlights that focusing on one brand isn't enough to generalize its reliability. While Asus often comes up for memory problems, it remains the most popular choice overall.

I'm worried about getting components that won't hold up. This is my first time assembling a PC and it's not working as expected.

For instance, which Gigabyte board you chose and the specific problems you encountered are important. The details match closely with your friend's setup using the 6950XT versus the 6900XT.
